Intra Oral Digital Radiography versus Cone Beam Computed Tomography for Detection of Infra Bony Periodontal Defects

Manar Mounir Hussein;

Abstract

This study aimed to compare between intraoral PSP detector and CBCT using i-CAT (Imaging Sciences International, Hatfield, PA), machine in detection of infrabony periodontal defects.
Twenty patients of both sexes (7 females and 13 male ranging in age between 18-60 years) were participated in this study .Probing depth was measured from the free gingival margin (FGM) to the base of the sulcus and vertical probing attachment level (CAL-V) was measured from cemento enamel junction (CEJ) to the base of the sulcus at six sites per tooth (mesiobuccal, buccal, distobuccal, disto-lingual, lingual and mesio-lingual) encircling the tooth using straight periodontal probe (PCP UNC 15, Hu Friedy, Chicago, IL).In case of molar teeth, furcation involvement measurement (FI) was performed using (NABERS probe).
Each patient in the study was imaged by two radiographic techniques (digital intraoral PSP plate and CBCT). The images saved as DICOM and transferred to a 3rd software On Demand and analysed by axial, cross-sectional and sagittal reconstructions.
All images were evaluated by two oral maxillofacial radiologists and were instructed to measure the distance
