EFFECT OF POST-MASTECTOMY AUTOLOGUS VERSUS IMPLANT RECONSTRUCTION ON BODY IMAGE AND QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG EGYPTIAN WOMEN

Heba Hassan Mohamed Alamary;

Abstract

Breast cancer is both the most frequent and the most fatal cancer in women. After liver cancer, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in Egypt.
In Egypt, it is accounting for 38.8% of all malignancies diagnosed in this demographic. It is predicted to have an 11 % death rate.The most frequent cancer in Egyptian women is breast carcinoma. Early detection of breast cancer results in a better prognosis and outcome for individuals who are diagnosed.
Despite recent substantial improvements in tumor biology, surgery remains an important aspect of the initial therapy of breast cancer. As long as the oncologic conditions allow it, it is now possible to diagnose the tumor in its early stages, allowing for conservative surgery and thereby limiting the esthetic damage. However, because conservative treatments are not always possible, mastectomy is still a common procedure, with 20–30% of women with breast cancer undergoing it.
