EFFECT OF USING BIO-CEMENT ON THE SERVICEABILITY LIMITS OF REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

Mohamed Mohsen Mohamed Omran;

Abstract

In this study, the production of the bio-cement was tested, in addition to the test of bio-concrete mixes. Also, the effect of using bio-cement on the serviceability limits and self-healing of reinforced concrete beams was examined. Finally, the economic feasibility of using bio-cement as a construction material was discussed.The study showed that the use of Sporosarcina pasteurii with calcium acetate was suffeciant in the production of bio-cement. Also, the tests of bio-concrete mixes showed that bio-concrete have compressive strength more than ordinary concrete by 45.6%, and tensile strength increased by 58.1%. farther more the tests of the beams showed that bio-concrete can self-heal the cracks. In addition to its ability to restore more than 58% of its flexural strength. And the deflection was decreased by 33% compared with ordinary concrete. Finally, the use of bio-concrete will decrease the cost of construction by 24%.
