A STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF A NEW DRESSING MATERIAL ON SECONDARY EPITHELIZATION OF VESTIBULOPlASTY WOUNDS

AHMED ABDEL MONEIM MAHMOUD;

Abstract

Several surgical procedures have been designed for deepening the shallow mandibular sulci; thereby increasing the denture retention and stability.
In the secondary epithelization vestibuloplasty designed by Clark (1953), the periosteum is left to heal by granulation then re-epithelization.

During the healing period, the raw area is painful, and prone to infection and damage, due to irritation and external stimuli. Moreover, reduction of the established depth occurs due to scar formation and contraction of the healing wound.

DuoDERM is a hydrocolloid dressing made up of two layers; an outer water-proof layer, and an inner adhesive colloid layer. It encourages wound healing and cleansing. It also protects the wound from external environment and
stimuli.
