PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT AND PROCESS OPTIMIZATION OF A STARTING UP SULPHUR RECOVERY UNIT

Ahmed Yehia Ibrahim Abd-Elkader;

Abstract

Egyptian Refinery Company (ERC) began commercial production in 2020. In this thesis, ten separate studies were conducted for the refinery, which was divided into four categories: (an environmental study for the SRU plant, a refining energy study, a refining optimization study and seven exergy studies for seven units). The total calculated cost saved from the Sulphur recovery unit study was 69,247.03 $/year. The total calculated cost saved from the refinery's energy-saving study was 1,537,206.38 $/year. A system for improving and monitoring units using live plant data has been developed. The seven exergy studies aim to calculate the destructive energy of the units, and these new studies represent a new source of hope for future energy savings.
