Abstract


Communication strategies are problem-solving devices resorted to by language learners in order to overcome the communicative problems that often face them as a result of their limited linguistic resources. They include intralingual strategies such as approximation and circumlocution. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of the these two strategies in particular by Egyptian learners of English. It also tried to explore the various factors influencing the effective use of these strategies
