PATIENT SATISFACTION VERSUS QUALITY OF NURSING CARE AT BENHA UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS

Abstract


Providing high quality clinical care that meets consumer expectations and satisfy consumer needs is the great challenge facing health service providers. The provision of patient care is the center of all activities occur in all health care systems and good quality care is a right of all patients and the responsibility of all nurses who deliver it. Quality is the effect of care on the health of the individual and the population. Improvement in the quality of care should be reflected in better health. Evaluation of patient satisfaction is key to continuous quality improvement in the health care setting.
The present study had three aims, first, to assess the level of patient satisfaction. fr.om patient's .Point. ofview, second, to assess the quality of care rendered by the study nurses based on observation checklist, and the third to examine the relation between patient's satisfaction and quality of nursing care.
The study was conducted at medical and surgical units at Benha University hospitals. The medical units included five general medicine units besides one unit for tropical medicine. The surgical units included three units namely; male, female and urology surgical units.
