GASTROESOPHAGEAL DECONGESTION OPERATION WITH SPLENO-PORTAL JUNCTION LIGATION FOR PREVENTION OF PORTAL VEIN THROMBOSIS

Abstract


This study was carried out on 20 patients included into 2
groups A and B with manifestations:
secondary to schistosomal hepatic fibrosis.
of portal hypertension
vein for reassessment of the patency, diameter, flow and velocity into the portal vein.
Group A: 10 patients in this group received the formal splenectomy and gastroesophageal devascularization operation according to lassab's technique.
Group B: 10 patients in this group received splenectomy and gastroesophageal devascularization operation modified by the splenic vein ligated at its junction with the portal vein.
Every patients was subjected to a full history taking, and thorough clinical examination, preoperative and postoperative laboratory investigations, U/S of the abdomen, preoperative and repeated postoperative color duplex examination of the portal
