Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate some biochemical and honnonal changes in the blood of growing Barki female and male lambs due to rbST injection aiming to throw some lights on the metabolic changes, growth rate, reproductive performance and lambs production.
A total of 22 Barki lambs (2-3 months old) were classified into four groups according to six differences and treatments:
Group I: Four growing female lambs received no drugs and served as

control group.

Group II: Six growing female lambs received I mg/kg body weight of rbST S.C. injection every two weeks.
Group HE Five growing male lambs received no drugs and served as

control group.

Group l V: Seven growing male lambs received I mg/kg body weight of

rbST SC. injection every two weeks.

Feed and water were afford ad libitium. Blood samples were collected every two weeks before rbST injection and serum IGFl was measured every three weeks. Body weights were measured every three weeks. Detection of estrus was made by using vasectomized rams and detection of puberty by measuring progesterone in female and testosterone in males. Diagnosis of pregnancy was made by ultrasonic waves.
Off spring production was weighted every two weeks.

Serum samples were used to detennine concentration of glucose, total lipid, total cholesterol, triacy/glycerol, total protein, albumin, globulin, A/G ratio, urea, creatinin, serum enzymes (lipase, lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase), electrolytes (calcium, phosphorus, sodium,
