Abstract


Bladder cancer associating schistosomiasis continues to be the most
frequent cancer in Egyptian men and a major cause of cancer mortality in.
Egypt. Only in recent years the interest in its prevention and control has reached a level comparable to its medical and economic importance. knowledge about the risk factors profile and the high risk group in the community is essential to achieve this goal.
The aim of the present research was therefore to study some epidemiological features of bladder cancer patients and to determine the epidemiological risk factors that _could be associated with bladder cancer development. In addition, identifying the current clinicopathological picture of bladder tumors with further detection of the different management strategies applied in treatment of bladder cancer patients admitted to the Urosurgery Department of Alexandria Main University Hospital (AMUH) were of the major
objectives in this study.
In order to accomplish this aim, a case-control study was adopted; on
200 of newly diagnosed bladder cancer patients admitted to AMUH Urology Department and an equal number of controls matched by age and sex and selected from other departments of the same hospital. All bladder cancer cases and controls were interviewed to collect information regarding their sociodemographic status, occupation, personal habits and medical history using an interviewing format. Also, data related to case diagnosis and
management were collected using two transfer sheets.
