OCCULT MULTICENTRICITY OF BREAST CARCINOMA

Abstract


The present study comprised 20 patients diagnosed by FNABC as
I cancer breast and to whom modified radical mastectomy was done after full
I clinical, laboratory and radiological investigations have been made including preoperative mammography for identification of multicentric foci. The

mastectomy specimens were dissected for gross and histopathological study I of the primary tumours and multicentric foci following a technique slightly I modified from that of Egan's et al 1996.
I It was found that the mean age of the patients was 44.5, 95% of them
I were married, 30% were premenopausal and 70% were postmenopausal and
20% had positive family history.

I Mammography revealed that 8 MCF were found in 4 patients, while gross inspection and palpation revealed 18 MCF in 6 patients in the present

study.
Histopathological study revealed that the primary tumour was IDC in
17 cases 85% and ILC in 3 cases 15%. MCF were histologically detected in
