EFFECTS OF OVARIAN HORMONES ON CHEMOTAXIS OF HUMAN POLYMORPHONUCLEAR LEUKOCYTES AND ITS EFFECT ON PERIODONTAL CONDITION

Abstract

The present study was initiated to evaluate the alteration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes chemotaxis by ovarian sex hormones and their effect on the periodontal condition in different physiological stages of women's life. Thirty females were included in the present study. They were selected from the outpatients of gynecology clinic, Shatby Hospital, Alexandria University. They were classified into four groups as follows: Group I: Consisted of ten regular cycling females during the follicular phase (started from the day 11 to 13 after the begining of the last menstruation). Group II: Consisted of the same ten regular cycling females of group I during the luteal phase (started from the day 21 to 23 after the begining of the last menstruation). Group Ill: Consisted of ten pregnant women during the third trimester. Group IV: Consisted of ten postmenopausal women (at least one year after cessation of menstruation ). The patients included were selected within the same age range of 25-35 years except for the fourth group, the range was from 50-75 years. Participants were chosen free from any relevant systemic diseases. The oral hygiene corditions were more or less the same for all of them.
