HISTOLOGICAL AND HISTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF THYROID GLAND AND SPLEEN OF ADULT ALBINO RAT IN DIFFERENT THYROID STATES

Hanan Said Seleem;

Abstract

The thyroid gland is one of the most important endocrine organs, that almost all cells in the body are target sites for its hormones.
Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are common endocrinopathies that are met with in clinical practice.
The spleen is the largest accumulation of lymphoid tissue in the body. It is an important immunologic blood filter and antibody forming organ.
One of the most important factors that affect the morphological and functional states of. the lymphoid tissue is the endocrine state.
The aim of this work was to study the effect of
experimentally induced hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism on
the histology and histochemistry of the thyroid gland and spleen.
Materials and methods
Forty five adult albino rats, weighing about 160-180 gms were used. They were fed standard rat chow diet, allowed tap water ad libitum and divided randomly and equally into three groups:•
