Abstract

The present work was carried out to find the increase in the sonographical measurements of kidney from birth till puberty. Also the present study was attempted to find the correlation of these renal measurements with the age, body height, and body weight in both sexes of apparently normal children living in Sohag territory.
The renal dimensions (length, width, and thickness), the age, body weight and body height for both sexes were taken in two hundreds and fifty apparently healthy male and female children.
Subjects were classified into five age groups; 0-3, 3-6,
6-9, 9-12 and 12-15 years old. Each group included 25 males and 25 females. The subjects were from Sohag schools and from out patient clinics of Sohag University Hospital who suffer from minor complaints other than renal troubles.
Renal dimensions and volume were calculated. Also the body weight, body height and age of both sexes were taken, Renal sonographical examination was performed using Acuson 123 x p/5 computed sonography system (Acuson Corporation USA).
Renal size and already the renal volume appear to increase by the increase of age (from few days to 15 years old).
