NASOLACRIMAL DUCT INTUBATION IN ADULTS

MOHAMED EL-HADY ALI;

Abstract

We recommend the use of silicone intubation without OCR in
cases of canalicular obstruction and nasolacrimal duct obstruction in adults because it proved to be a simple, effective method for treatment of
J canalicular and nasolacrimal duct obstruction. It has the advantage of
I simplifying the procedure with less time and expenses. We also
.
recommend the use of a multiple square knot to tie the two ends of the

u tube without intranasal fixation to save the patient from another trip to the operating room, in intranasal fixation because the tubes were
• removed at the office through the medial canthus .

Proper management of cases of trauma which involve the lid
• margin in general and the lacrimal apparatus in particular is very important because the tissues, if left untreated, will heal with disturbance of proper anatomical alignment which causes difficulty in subsequent

management with , consequently lower success rates.

sd Although silastic intubation of the nasolacrimal system appears to be a more conservative and reasonable approach, it can however, be a

J very traumatic procedure in an inexperienced hand. So caution is there fore essential to minimize complications. The use of sinuscope in presence of ENT specialist is essential .

Lastly, we assume that the study produced a simple and effective procedure with special techniques of knotting, adjustment of the tightness versus redundancy, retrieving the probes and most importantly
removing the tubes through the medial canthus in the out- patient clinic .
