Assess Nursing Performance During Implementation of Care Bundle for Critically ill Patients

Eman Helwan Ismail;

Abstract

The ICU survivorship has become a top concern and methods to optimize patient recovery and outcomes are important objectives for the health provider, families, and researchers. Critically ill patients experience a variety of distressing symptoms during their hospital stay including pain, agitation, delirium, weakness, and sleep deprivation. Because of the complexity of caring for ICU patients, these symptoms are often managed by keeping patients heavily sedated, immobilized, and often socially isolated (Pun et al., 2019).
The ABCDEF bundle is one path to well-rounded patient care and optimal resource utilization resulting in more interactive ICU patients with better pain control, who can safely participate with their families and healthcare providers in higher-order physical and cognitive activities at the earliest point in their critical illness. Implementation of ABCDEF care bundle is associated with reduced delirium, ventilator, ICU, and hospital days; improved survival; and increased likelihood of early mobilization and restraint-free care (Marra et al., 2017).
