CONTAMINATION OF GROUNDWATER WITH ORGANIC AND INORGANIC POLLUTANTS IN EL-SADAT CITY, A NEW SETTLEMENT IN EGYPT

SELEEM EL-SAYED GABER TALKHAN SAID;

Abstract

The present work is devoted to evaluate the hydrochemistry of the groundwater in El-Sadat City, and study the extent of pollution through the determination of different types of chemical pollutants in
groundwater samples which were collected from the shallow
«d
(observation) and deep (production) wells, surface water samples were collected from the oxidation ponds in which the industrial and domestic waste are collected and primarily treated.

The study includes evaluation of water for using in different purposes as drinking, irrigation and industry. Carrying out the chemical analyses for collected water samples these analyses included:
-Determination of the major ions Na', Ca?", Mg? and trace constituents
Al, Cd, Pb, Cu, Cr, Ni, Fe, Mn, Zn,
-Determination of the anions CI, SO,PO,F,NO, and NO

-Determination of the organic constituent in the collected samples by determining the Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Organic Nitrogen (TON).
