ROLE OF TRANSRECTAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY IN EVALUATION OF PROSTATIC DISORDERS
Khalid Abd EL-wahab Abou Dewan;
Abstract
Ultrasonic imaging of the prostate may be done by transabdominal, perineal, transurethral or transrectal scanning. Today
, transrectal imaging of the prostate has become a routine procedure and volume measurement by ultrasound is well established in urologic practice. Also , ultrasound guidance of the puncture biopsy needle has become wide spead.
This study included 490 patients , subjected to the following:
1-Thourough history taking.
2-Physical examination, including digital rectal examination performed by an experienced urologist.
3-Transrectal ultrasonography: for all patients . All transrectal examinations was performed using tmultiplanar probe.
4- Transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy: For 295 patients. The indications for biopsy was prescence of hypoechoic lesion on TRUS and/or abnormal digital rectal examination.
5- Abdominal ultrasonography: with stress on the liver, kidneys and prescence or absence oflymph nodes
6-Serum PSA evaluation: using the Tandtdem R PSA method
(Hybritech assay).
7. Intravenous urography.: for all cases.
8. Computed tomography: Was done for 95 patients.
9. Bone scan: Was done for 54 patients.
10- Uroflowmetric study :done for 412 patients
