Tissue Health Around Abutments Supporting Magnetic Retained Overdentures With Cusped and Non-Cusped Teeth

Sayed M. El-Masry;

Abstract

This study was carried out on eighteen patients to compare the effect of anatomic versus non-anatomic teeth on periodontal support of abutments supporting magnetic retained mandibular overdentures.
Patients were randomly classified in to two groups, group 'A' received mandibular overdenture with non-anatomic teeth and group 'B' received mandibular overdenture with anatomic teeth.In both groups, the mandibular overdentures opposed by conventional maxillary complete dentures.
The results of this study showed no significant effect on bone height and pocket depth in both groups without any significant differences between them.
Based on the results of the present study, it may be concluded that, the use of magnet attachments may be valuable to solve a situation pushing the dentist to override the benefits of the anatomical teeth to prevent the dangerous effects of its horizontal stresses that may be transmitted to the overdenture abutments.
