Aisha Soud Al-Thani;

Abstract

In the present time, it became well known that infectuous diseases represent the main causes of morbidity and even mortality under many instances. These facts have necessitated the development of effective means of medication of such cases. In this concern, the area of microbial therapy has provided powerful drugs to combat the infections more effectively than before. Within this circle, antibiotics stand as the most effective medication.
Antibiotics are defined as the chemical compounds derived from, or produced by living organisms, which are capable of inhibiting or destroying the infectuous organisms.
One of the essential antibiotics is "chloramphenicol" (CHP) which was the first broad spectrum antibiotic discovered and had received a widespread medical application. CHP. It has displayed marked efficacy in inhibiting the growth of a wide variety of bacteria and viruses. In a more precise manner, it was successfully applied in the treatment of typhoid and paratyphoid fever and other similar cases.
But from a contrary point of view, chloramphenicol has been encriminated for certain serious side effects which were noticed to occur in several body organs.
Hence, the present work was constructed for the evaluation and assessment of any hazardous consequences which might arise in the body organs, examplified by two essential ones, namely the liver and kidney of a mammalian representative, the white rat.
