DESCRIPTION AND COMPARISON OF DNA PROBES AND ENZYME-LINKED IMMUNOSORBENT ASSAY FOR THE DETECTION OF ANAPLRSMA MARGINALE IN BOVINES

Khaled Farouk Mohammad Abd EI Hamid;

Abstract

Diagnosis of anaplasmosis in Egypt and lesser developed countries is impeded by the lack of sensitive and specific diagnostic assays.
Therefore, development of sensitive and specific diagnostic assays for anaplasmosis would remove a significant impediment to improved animal health care in lesser developed countries worldwide.
Through this study recent and modem diagnostic techniques have been used for diagnosis of cattle anaplasmosis in Egypt, for the first time.
Out of two hundreds fifty five (255) animals that were represented by 162 foreign and 93 native breeds, blood samples were collected for separation of serum and DNA extraction using a very simple and rapid guanidine thiocyanate and celite method.
This investigation, throws a spot of light on, the application of C-ELISA and nucleic acid hybridization using DNA labelled probe for identification of cattle persistently
infected with • uaodale.
