Alaa Mohamed Mohamed Maria;

Abstract

This study included 40 adult patients with Hodgkin's disease (stage IIB-IV) treated at Clinical Oncology Department, Tanta University Hospitals; Clinical Oncology & Nuclear Medicine Department and Medical Oncology & Hematology Unit, Mansoura University Hospitals, during the period from July 1997 to February 2002.
The mean age was 33.6 years. The male to female ratio was 3: I. According to Ann Arbor staging system, 50% had stage Ill, 35% had stage IIB and 15% had stage IV. According to Rye classification, mixed cellularity was the most frequent subtype (45%) followed by Nodular sclerosis, Lymphocyte predominance and Lymphocyte depletion respectively.
Most of the patients were treated by chemotherapy alone (24 out of
40, 60%). Ten patients treated by Stanford-V protocol and 14 patients treated by COPP protocol due to various reasons (e.g. financial). Sixteen patients out of 40 treated by combined modality regimen (chemotherapy and radiation therapy). Twelve patients treated by the Stanford-V regimen
& radiation therapy and 4 patients treated by COPP regimen & radiation
therapy.
