Abstract


The present study was carried out lo investigate changes in some haematological, biochemical and hormonal constituents in the blood of growing buffalo male and female calves treated with recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbst) aiming to throw some lights on the metabolic changes, growth rate and its reflection on animal performances.

A total of 20 growing buffalo calves (4-6 month old) were classified into four groups according Lo sex differences and (rbst)
treatments until puberty period.


♦ Group l:

Six female growing buffalo calves received I mg/kg body weight of (rbst) dissolved in pure olive oil
injected s/c every two weeks.

+ Group IE: Four female growing buffalo calves received no drugs but injected s/c with pure olive oil.
• Group I: Six male growing buffalo calves received I mg/kg body weight of (rbst) dissolved in pure olive oil injected s/c every two weeks.
• Group IV: Four male growing buffalo calves received no drugs but injected sic with pure olive oil.

Clinical and laboratory investigations were performed for all groups. feed and water were afford atlibitium, blood samples were collected every four weeks before (rbst) injection. Body weight were measured every month detection of puberty by measuring progesterone in female and testosterone in male and by ultrasonography to detect ovarian follicles in addition to visual observation.
