Contrast Enhanced Mammography versus Dynamic Contrast Enhanced MRI in the Evaluation of Sonomammographic BI-RADS 3 & 4 Breast Lesions

Asmaa Magdy Hussein;

Abstract

reast cancer is a major health problem and a leading cause of death among women in Egypt. Early detection of breast cancer aims to reduce morbidity and mortality rates. Accurate diagnosis and characterization of breast lesions have an essential role in the management and improved prognosis of breast cancer.
Nowadays MRI of the breast is frequently applied when other diagnostic modalities fail to find a primary source in the breast. Similar to breast MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography (CEDM) should be of particular interest for assessment of extent of the disease as it allows a better evaluation of the lesion size and detection of more multifocal and multicentertic breast cancers than mammography alone or combined with ultrasonography. Fast imaging technique with immediate availability in the mammography suite without a new appointment are considered advantages of CEDM.
The aim of this study was to assess the role of contrast-enhanced digital mammography versus dynamic contrast MRI in the evaluation of sonomammographic BI-RADS 3 & 4 breast lesions.
This study was carried out on 30 patients at National Cancer Institute (N.C.I) and Ain Shams University. All of them with breast cancer lesions (BI-RADS 3 & 4) diagnosed by
