Abstract

The freshwater shrimp Caridina nilotica is an ecologically important species which is common in our freshwater and was chosen as an experimental animals during the present work. It is worthy to mention that • the shrimps have a considerable economic importance and play an important role in the ecosystem. Hence. they constitute a major food items for some fishes and produce organic matter in water. Also, some shrimps are eaten, like large freshwater prawn Macrobrachium sp. Therefore, these shrimps can be used as a promosing alternative source of
protein for man. The pollution and its effect on water and the
aquatic animals are considered as one of man's greatest crimes against himself and some organisms such as shrimps act as a monitor for the pollution. In spite of these importance the shrimp has little attention in Egypt. Therefore, the essential goal of this work is to focus on the effect of some heavy metals and pesticides on some organs of the freshwater shrimp Caridina nilotica.
In this work shrimps were collected from different irrigation canals at Al- Kased and Al- Agezy drain in Tanta city at Gharbia Governorate.
