Abstract
Because of the continuous blood transfusions, thalassemia patients are subjected to secondary iron overload and iron-induced lipid peroxidation, which finally results in cell death and organ dysfunction affecting the liver, heart, pituitary gland, and pancreas. An increased consumption of antioxidants may result in an attempt to maintain the cellular redox state balanced
