Dina Ahmed Hosney Youssef;

Abstract

Adolescent patients with T1D are of particular concern because studies have shown that glycemic control is likely to deteriorate during this developmental period and can contribute to further complications in the future. So, the current study was designed to assess frequency, risk determinants and clinical outcomes of uncontrolled diabetes among Egyptian adolescents with T1D.
This study examined a large cohort of adolescents with T1D and analyzed a comprehensive series of modifiable risk determinants and sequelae. This observational study included 400 adolescents with T1D, who were selected from 664 registered in Pediatric and adolescent Diabetology Unit, Ain Shams University Hospitals. Their mean HbA1c was 8.66 ± 2.33%. They were classified into two equal groups of 200 patients according to their HbA1c: well controlled group with HbA1c of 7% or lower, and poorly controlled group with HbA1c greater than 7%.
All patients were assessed for Diabetes duration, mode and dose of insulin therapy, frequency of diabetic ketoacidosis, and clinically significant hypoglycemia were evaluated. Adherence to therapy was assessed using the Morisky
