Role of Saline Infusion Sonohysterography and Transvaginal Colour Doppler Ultrasonography in Evaluating Uterine Polyps

Sarah Mohy El-Din AbdEl-Moniem Hassan;

Abstract

ndometrial polyps are overgrowths of endometrial glands that typically protrude into the uterine cavity. Endometrial polyps are benign in nature and affect both reproductive age and postmenopausal women.
Although endometrial polyps are relatively common and may be accompanied by abnormally heavy bleeding at menstruation. In asymptomatic women, endometrial polyps may regress spontaneously, in symptomatic women endometrial polyps can be treated safely and efficiently with hysteroscopic excision.
As per our results, colour Doppler findings of endometrial polyps and sono-hysterography findings showed that there was a significant difference between colour Doppler results and sono-hysterography findings while there was high concordance between histopathology results and sono-hysterography findings.
This proves the superiority of sono-hysterography over colour Doppler sonography in diagnosis of uterine polyps.
Using intrauterine insemination catheter showed better results during imaging and better tolerance with the patients than Foley catheter.
Sono-hysterography is a safe and highly sensitive and specific modality used in diagnosis of endometrial polyp
