ACLINICAL AND SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE STU DY ON THE EFFECT OF ENAMEL MICROABRASION TECHNIQUE IN REMOVING SUPERFICIAL DECALCIFICATION DEFECTS.
Ranya Samir Aly;
Abstract
The present work was conducted to study clinically and by SEM the effect of enamel microabrasion technique using prema compound in removing superficial enamel discolouration and decalcification defects.
The Clinical Study:
The clinical study was performed on a sample of 14 patients (8-14 years) with 48 teeth representing 3 groups. Group I represented teeth with decalcification defects after debonding. Group II represented teeth with decalcification defects and spots after debanding. Group III represented teeth with discolouration and decalcification defects of extrinsic origin.
All groups of teeth were treated with prema compound (Premier dental products Co.) to eliminate the discolouration and decalcification defects. After treatment fluoride gel was applied for 4 minutes. Teeth were photographed before, immediately after and 3 months after treatment. Also, pulp tester readings were taken before, immediately after and 3 months after treatment.
The Laboratory Study (SEMstudy):
The laboratory study was performed on a sample of 15 teeth, which represented 2 groups. Group I represented teeth with sound enamel. Group II represented teeth with decalcified enamel surface (white spot lesions). Each group of teeth was divided into subgroups a, b & c.
Subgroup a: teeth received ten 20-second applications of prema compound and then were prepared for examination under the SEM.
