Cost Optimization for Construction of Steel Pedestrian Bridges in Egypt

Mohamed Mousa Ali Abdullah Khedr;

Abstract

Due to the rapid development of highways in Egypt, steel pedestrian bridges were necessary because of their importance in helping people cross the roads safely; it is also used in crossing natural physical obstacles like rivers or railroads. Therefore, many different systems were considered and analyzed to determine the best system selection for the steel pedestrian bridges. The top priority of structural designers and decision-makers is to select the optimum structural system with minimum cost. Thus, the proposed approach enables decision-makers and designers to choose the optimum system for steel pedestrian bridges towards client satisfaction and conduct analytical investigations to facilitate decision-making in systems for the available materials in Egypt for the pedestrian bridges. Furthermore, several studies and books have been completed and written on the theory and technique of cost optimization. Therefore, this thesis is designed to serve as a reference and a guideline for anyone who will be implementing cost optimization or who would like to benefit from the cost-saving prospects that can be realized via its application.
The research conclusions presented in this chapter are based on this extensive body of work, backed by a review of scientific literature and an analysis of selecting an optimum structu
