Assessment and Mitigation of Potential Hazards of the Drainage Basins between Abu Ghusun and Bernice, Eastern Desert, Egypt

Samir Zaky El Mosilhy Kamh;

Abstract

The establishment of manageable strategies for the sustainable development of the Egyptian deserts is an urgent national target. For successful and effective implementation of these strategies, two main problems must be taken into consideration particularly in the Red Sea province. Firstly, the paucity of the natural water resources, and secondly, the sporadic and unpredictable torrential floods. So, successful programs require pursuing innovative approaches in the increasing of groundwater reserves, better management of known recourses, avoidance of flash flood hazards, and exploitation of floodwater
