Abstract

The historical materials held in archives constitutes ate important part of the cultural heritage of mankind and its conservation is of vital
importance. These archive materials arc made from different kinds of papers, e.g., cotton rags, wood pulp ...etc. Tt is known that paper ages, i,c,
loses some of its original properties with time and with prolonged lime periods ii might be completely damaged. biologically deterioration by
fungi which cause decomposition of cellulose with stain formation, Hydrolysis, oxidation, cross linking, and changes in lateral order and
crystallinity arc possible reactions which take place during the natural aging of paper. Paper permanence is affected by pulp varity, paper
additives and storing conditions. The study is intended to shade more Eight on biological damage by cellulose decomposing fungi and how to
treat them naturally by using medicinal plants extract to stop and prevent their harmful effect on papers without making any future changes on
papers, manuscripts, and parchment.
