STUDIES ON SOME QUINOLINE DERIVATIVES OF POSSIBLE BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY

Abstract

The present work deals with the synthesis of 6 or 7-substituted -4-chloro-3-nitroquinaldine (III) ,as a precursor to prepare spiro, tricyclic and tetracyclic derivatives. The required starting compound 6-or 7-substituted-4-chloro-3• nitroquinaldines (III)were prepared by nitration of 4-hydroxyquina• ldine derivatives (I) to give 6-or 7-substituted-4-hydroxy-3-nitro• quinaldines, which was then chloronated with a mixture of phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorus pentachloride. respectively,
