Efficacy and Safety of Colistin Based Antibiotic Therapy for Multidrug Resistance Gram Negative Infections in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Ahmed Saeed Attia Ahmed Mancy;

Abstract

Antibiotics are widespread in health care system due to its role in treatment of different types of infections. Antibiotics miss use and abuse are considered as a main source of rising the levels of resistance especially among the new generations, as they are affected by worldwide changes. Antibiotics misuse and abuse could occur at any stage of the medication use process such as (prescribing, transcription, dispensing, or administration of a medication) which could lead to treatment failure, spreading of resistance or deviation in data collection and recording.
Pediatrics are at high risk of infections even by common types of bacteria or multidrug resistant bacteria, due to lack of immunity, hygiene, medical treatment knowledge and information.
Although most errors induce little or no harm, some might have disastrous complications for patients and occasionally for practitioners.
Although involvement of a clinical pharmacist in the ICU is important to advise and recommend the right medications, in addition to that, to report any adverse event in order to achieve the maximum level of safety and efficacy, the role of clinical pharmacist in controlling medication use in the ICU in Egypt is not clearly defined.
Hemodynamic parameters and microbiological response are a major tools in assessing bacterial infections, and also could be used to measure the levels of safety and efficacy during the treatment duration.
This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of antibiotic combinations containing colistin in the treatment of children
