Abstract


Passive immunity is an immune state that is acquired from another individuAl. It differs in many respects from active acquired immunity. Transfer of immunity from one individual to another means that the recipient has not been exposed to an immunizing dose of antigen. Passive immunity CLiil be acquired naturally or artificially. During the latter part of pregnancy the infant prepared to enter the hostile world. Birth with no immunity would surely be fatal. Transplacental protection of the infant is the main immunologic defense during the first few months of life. (Aloisi, 1988).
