Effect of supplementing methyl donors on productive performance of native hens

Abstract


The present experiment was carried out at EL-Azab Poultry Research Station, EL-Fayoum Governorate, Egypt during the period from 8th January to 22nd May, 2018. The chemical analysis was performed in the laboratories of Immunology Poultry Research, animal production department, faculty of Agricultural, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt. This study was undertaken to assess the dietary effects of Betaine (B), Canthaxanthin (CAX), sodium Sulphate (SS) and their combination on the productive and reproductive performance of Fayoumi laying hens at late egg production period, as well as age related oxidative stress, metabolic profile and immune status.

1. Experimental Design:

a. Birds:

One hundred and forty four Fayoumi hens and twenty-four

cocks 42 weeks age were selected from the Fayoumi stock reared at, EL-Azab Poultry Research Station, EL-Fayoum Governorate, Egypt. Birds selected on the basis of their egg production (EP) and body weight, then subjected to feeding regimens for two weeks previous trail to ensure that their EP. Weight profile in each group was almost similar, and to adjusted the daily feed amount for all birds. Birds distributed randomly into 8 treatment groups. Data were collected for 18 weeks period, where the experiment started after 46 - weeks -old and ended at 64 – weeks old.
