CHEMICAL, CYTOLOGICAL AND BACTERIOLOGICAL STUDY OF DRAINED FLUID AFTER PATEY’S MASTECTOMY USING TWO DIFFERENT WAYS OF DRAINGE
AMR EZZ EL-REGAL H. EL BELTAGY;
Abstract
Breast cancer is the common cancer in females. Sex is certainly an
I important contributing factors for this disease since it is rare in male.
I A number of factors have been demonstrated to increase a women's risk for the development of breast cancer. Surgical removal of the breast
I and axillary lymphatics is the most common treatment for operable breast
cancer.
The frequency of post-operative wound complications were significantly influenced by physical features of the patient and the type of
I drainage used.
I The aim of this work was to evaluate the post operative wound complications after surgery for breast cancer. Also to examine the drained
I fluid pathologically, bacteriologically and chemically.
I The study was carried out on 20 female patients with breast
I carcmoma admitted to Surgical Deparetment, Main Alexandria University
Hospitals. Each patient was studied along the following lines :
I 1. A clinical interview, paying special attention to age, previous breast
complaint or surgery, previous diseases.
2. Clinical examination including inspection and palpation of both breasts,
I palpation of the breast lump and axillary and supraclavicular lymph nodes.
I 3. Laboratory work up.
I 4. Staging of the tumour according to TNM.
