Abstract

Pure and loaded 80%PVA/10%PVP/10%PEG-blended polymers with different ratios of nanoCdS/Mg (prepared in air and nitrogen environments) were prepared using thermolysis and casting procedures. Rietveld refinement was used to investigate the ratios between the hexagonal wurtzite and cubic zinc-blende phases in nanoCdS/Mg prepared under different conditions. The effect of preparation environment on the lattice parameter, crystallite size, and microstrain of the nanofiller was also explored. X-ray diffraction confirmed the incorporation of the nanofiller in the blended polymer matrix. The influence of the nanofiller on the linear and nonlinear optical parameters of the blended polymers was investigated using the diffused reflectance spectroscopy technique. The optical band gap of pure blended polymer was reduced from 5.32 eV to 4.48 eV and 4.16 eV as the blend filled with 10% CdS/Mg (air) and 5% CdS/Mg (N2), respectively. The refractive indices of pure and filled blends with nanofillers exhibited normal and anomalous dispersions depended on the measured wavelength range. The nonlinear optical parameters were improved as the blends filled with CdS/Mg (N2 or air). All pure and filled blends emitted two violet and two blue colors, regardless the amount and the conditions of the preparation of the nanofiller.
