AbstractAn experimental study for the scour hole which takes place downstream abrupt positive step was conducted. First, the dimension analysis was introduced to give information about the parameters involved in the scour phenomenon. Experiments were carried on to relate the relative dimensions of the scour hole to the flow parameters, relative height of step, and time. Curves were introduced and discussed. Some empirical equations were given based on the experimental results for design purposes.
