Biography
Dr. Ahmed Khaled Mohamed Abd El-Hameed is an Assistant Professor of Sustainability and Resource Efficiency in the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering, specializing in Environmental Sciences and Building Technologies. His Ph.D. research on water-efficient construction processes for affordable housing in Egypt was awarded the Best Ph.D. Thesis at Ain Shams University in 2019.

Dr. Abd El-Hameed’s research focuses on water efficiency in buildings, urban water management, the Water-Energy-Food nexus, resource efficiency and circularity in the built environment, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and life-cycle assessment of buildings. He has published extensively in high-impact journals such as the Journal of Building Engineering, Results in Engineering, and Springer book series, with contributions addressing digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and sustainable urban systems across the building lifecycle.

Beyond academia, Dr. Abd El-Hameed plays an active role in national and international sustainability initiatives. Since 2024, he has served as a Ministry Representative for Green Transformation at the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, coordinating environmental advisory efforts, contributing to UNESCO projects on greening education, and representing Egypt in national smart and green development initiatives. He has participated in major international platforms, including COP27, UNESCO ESD-NET regional workshops, and regional water security dialogues.

Dr. Abd El-Hameed is also the coordinator of the World Design Studio, an interdisciplinary and international academic collaboration linking Egyptian, U.S., and Chinese universities through research-based sustainable urban design projects. In parallel, he is an active science communicator, authoring books and newspaper columns in Arabic and leading award-winning public awareness initiatives on climate change, resource efficiency, and sustainable urbanism.
