Biography
Ashraf El-Shamy is a geotechnical engineer and researcher currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He received his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Ain Shams University in 2012, followed by an M.Sc. degree in Geotechnical Engineering in 2016. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Ain Shams University in 2020, with research focusing on soil–structure interaction and foundation performance in problematic soils. His professional experience includes extensive involvement in major infrastructure projects, particularly transportation systems, deep foundations, and ground improvement works. His research interests include geotechnical site investigation, pile foundations, collapsible and expansive soils, finite element modeling using PLAXIS, and the geotechnical aspects of large-scale infrastructure projects such as railways and monorail systems. He is a member of the Egyptian Geotechnical Society (EGS) and has authored several peer-reviewed journal papers in the field of geotechnical engineering.
