Abstract

The aim of this comparative study was to evaluate effect of cantilevering a bar connecting mini implants supporting overdenture.
12 completely edentulous patients were selected from the outpatient clinic of prosthodontics department faculty of oral and dental medicine Ain shams and 6 October university.
Patients were divided into 2 equal groups (6 patients each). 4 mini implants were placed in each patient interforaminally.
Group1: Patients rehabilitated with mandibular complete overdenture, retained with 4 mini implants splinted with bar attachment.
Group2: Patients rehabilitated with mandibular complete overdenture, retained with 4 mini implants splinted with cantilevered bar attachment.
The early loading protocol was implemented; the bone loss, stability and pocket depth were measured.
Data was collected checked, revised, tabulated and statistically analyzed.Comparing the two groups throughout the study period demonstrates that cantilevering the bar caused definite more bone resorption around the distal implants though this may not affect the success of the implant as a whole.
