Abstract
The study starts with presentation of the introduction , the problem of research, its scope ,
objectives, theoretical hypotheses, questions and methodologies of research And research
addition.
The research study is divided into three parts, which include nine chapters as follows:
Part One: Theoretical Study: It includes three chapters
Chapter 1- Theory Introduction About Housing:
Displays the concept of housing , its patterns, problems and housing issues, then the concept
of economic housing and low-cost housing, to ending with the definition of social housing
which The research interested in .
Chapter 2 : Problem of low Income Housing in Egypt:
Presents in details the problem of low income housing in Egypt since 1952 and during
successive periods until 2012, and extracts the positive and negative aspects of each period, to
identify the reasons of low level of residential product which provided for low-income during
these periods.
Chapter 3 - Social Housing Sustainability Requirements:
Discusses UN Habitat programs which interested in human right to adequate housing, the
basic principles it has adopted for the sustainability of urban communities and calls for the
integration of the main dimensions, The study also discusses the relationship between housing
and sustainable development and gave a detailed presentation to identify the social,
environmental and economic dimensions necessary for the sustainability of social housing.
Then, it tackled a detailed presentation of the local standards for sustainable construction
Issued by The Egyptian Green Building Counci, to devise sustainability Criteria for local
social housing.
Part Two: Analytical Study: It includes three chapters
Chapter 1 - Sustainable Social Housing Methodology:
It describes and analyzes the methodology of sustainable social housing of the United Nations
Environment Program (UNEP) which includes four main steps:
1. Mapping and Assessment: The aim of this step is to understand the local context and
practices of low-income social housing projects to identify priority areas and develop
effective alternative solutions through which to achieve positive results.
2- Establishing the project agenda and scope: The aim of this step is to understand how to
choose possible actions and solutions based on the local and regional context and
characteristics of the project site. The project agenda and scope are formulated through
targeted areas and sustainable solutions selected and rewarded for specific objectives
Economically effective solutions should be applied where solutions are less costly and
efficient.
3- Raising Awareness and Building Capacity: The objective of this step is to promote the
necessary awareness among stakeholders to participate in implementation and to increase
objectives, theoretical hypotheses, questions and methodologies of research And research
addition.
