Nisreen Samy Abdien;

Abstract

Gated Communities exist in Egypt in big scale but rarely have planning measures that can guarantee their sustainability, and prevent them from being abandoned on the long run. Walkability is among the measures that achieves sustainability.
As in fact, many neighbourhoods suffer from shortage in gathering places, walkability, and accessibility. At the same time, walking has generally received little attention in the planning, design, or the development of our communities. So the research will focus on the evaluation of the walkable comminutes regarding the environmental issues for walkability in the residential neighbourhood.
The research objective is to add a new methodology for evaluating any walkaway in gated residential neighbourhood.
The proposed methodology Depends on a theoretical framework derived by comparative analysis of International cases, and was tested by a questionnaire that was analysed by statistical techniques such as Logistic regression using SPSS.
The most relevant outcomes of the questionnaire for Walkable communities in the research is represented in Sun and shade that was proven to have the highest score of walkability objective dimensions according to the research questionnaire.
