The Efficacy Of Endovascular Embolization For The Treatment Of Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

Muhammad Tawfik Muhammad Abdel Mohsen;

Abstract

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is one of the major causes of Chronic Pelvic Pain that affects about 24 % of women worldwide with subsequent socioeconomic burden.
The etiology of Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is multifactorial, however, the end resultis the dilatation and incompetenceof pelvic veins.
The most frequently used imaging modalities for detection of incompetence in pelvic veins include non-invasive investigations like duplex ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, yet, the gold standard is the minimally invasive selective trans-catheter venography.
Multiple treatment options are existing including medical, surgical and endovascular embolization.
The Endovascular embolization is considered currently the most common modality of treatment for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome with many reports suggesting marked improvement in the symptoms and quality of life in women who have received that type of treatment.
