Abstract

Ovarian carcinoma is a leading cause of death among gynecologic malignancies. Epithelial cancers are the most common ovarian malignancies, and because they are usually asymptomatic until they have metastasized, patient present with advanced disease in more than two thirds of the cases.
Too many studies are going worldwide to determine the value of different tumor markers in ovarian carcinoma. VEGF, the principal biomarker of angiogenesis, has been presented as a potential tumor marker in ovarian tumors.
VEGF is the most important promoter of angiogenesis and is strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of ovarian carcinomas. Several studies have revealed a correlation between VEGF and aggressiveness of the tumor growth, ascites formation, and metastatic spread
