DIAGNOSIS OF MANDIBULAR LESIONS BY RADIOLOGICAL AND IMAGING MODALITIES
عبير عبد الحميد علي;
Abstract
Mandibular lesions are a non specific term, these lesions are classified according to the cause of the lesions, as developmental, dystrophic, inflammatory and tumors, either odontogenic or nonodontogenic (Kaneda et al., 1995).
Cystic lesions, hormonal lesions, metabolic disease, traumatic, and TM dislocation also affect the mandible (Toller et al., 1995).
In the past, plain x-ray was the mainly investigation in diagnosis of these lesions. Radiological techniques like intraoral, extraoral radiographic, panoramic and tomography (Givol et al., 1998).
Also, imaging techniques are the new modalities which play an important role in the evaluation of mandibular lesions like CT, MRI, U/S and radionuclide (Sutton, 1998).
The aim of this study is to emphasize the role of radiological and imaging modalities in diagnosis of mandibular lesions
