M0HAMED ALI ABD EL-REHIM;
Abstract
Studies were conducted on twelve broiler flocks of one day up to eight weeks of age. The flocks were comparatively small flocks of :5,000 birds each raised on floor in houses with open ventilation system. The flocks were located at different areas of Behira, Kafr El-Sheikh and Alexandria Governorates. From each of these flocks 6 : 8 ailing birds ( t tally 80 birds ) were taken to the Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Alexandria University for mycological investigatior.
Post-mortem examination of sick birds sampled from flocks suffering from respiratory troubles revealed in the majority of cases, a picture characterized by one or more of the following lesions: catarrhcJ tracheitis and I or bronchitis, lung congestion or pneumonia and airsacculitis. In one flock there was fibrinous pericarditis and perihepatitis. In another -:Jock there were ascitis, rubbery liver, flabby heart and swollen and congested kidneys.
The results of mycological examination showed incidence of 67.5 %
positive fungal isolation were found in a total of 80 examined ,ung samples.
The filngi commonly found in the lung were A. fumiga 1us ( 16.25 % ), A. flavus ( 13.75% ), A. niger ( 18.75% ), A. candidus was found in relatively low incidence ( 1.25 % ), Fusarium species was found in relatively low incidence ( 2.5 % ), Mucor species ( 26.25 % ), Penicillium .pecies ( 10 % ) and Candida albicans ( 3.75 % ) .
