Effect of Zinc Supplementation on Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome Components in Obese Children and Adolescents

Abstract


Our study revealed that there was significant difference in anthropometric measurements (BMI, SDS of weight for height, SDS of height for age, waist circumference, hip circumference ) among patients compared to control. There were higher in patients than controls.
Our study revealed that there was significant decrease in anthropometric measurements(BMI,SDS of weight for height, SDS of height for age, waist circumference, hip circumference ) in obese subjects after zinc therapy for 3 months.
Our study revealed that there was a significant difference in lipid profile among patients compared to control. LDL, Cholesterol, VLDL were higher in patients while HDL was higher in controls.
Our study revealed that there was significant decrease in LDL, VLDL, Cholesterol and insulin resistance (HOMA IR) and a significant increase in HDL in obese subjects after zinc therapy for 3 months.
