Amr Mostafa Abd Elfattah Mostafa;

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is the most conunon endocrine metabolic disorder of childhood and adolescence with important consequences for physical and emotional development. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) 1s a senous microvascular complication in patients with type I DM. The rise in blood pressure produced by injection of kidney extracts is due to renin..

The present study was carried out on 30 children and adolescents with type I DM. Thirty healthy children matching in age and sex as the patient group were included as a control group .
plasma renin activity was found to be elevated in long standing type I diabetic children in which the duration of illness is more than 5 years. Moreover, positive correlation is observed between plasma rerun activity on one side and microalbuminuria, HbA1c, mean blood pressure on the other
side.

Regular detection of plasma renin activity especially to patients having diabetes mellitus for more than 5 years is recommended.

Key words: Diabetes mellitus, Diabetic nephropathy, Renin.
